Thursday, July 29. 5-7 pm. Opening reception for the art show to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Thomas Viaduct. The B&O Railroad Museum, 901 West Pratt St., Baltimore, MD 21223. The show will run through Febuary 2011 and is available for viewing on most days during regular museum hours. Call in advance for status at 410-752-2462, Ext. 215.

Learn about 20 historic sites, including the raging Patapsco River, the first national road, the town’s hidden cobblestone alley, B&O Railroad Museum, the gigantic rock cliffs alongside the sidewalks and the mysterious marker near the Railroad bridge. Saturday, September 25. 9am.-12 pm. Patapsco River Cleanup, off Ilchester & River Roads. Park along River Road or under train bridge off Ilchester Road and register at site along Ilchester Road. Participants who received stream captain training on September 18 will participate with mentor to run this event as on-the-job training.

Wednesday, January 27. 7:30-9 pm. PHG Annual Meeting. Location: Relay Town Hall, Community Center, 1710 Arlington Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21227. Guest Speaker Ed Williams will talk about the history of the B&O Railroad from 1830 to 1868. Parking is available along Arlington Avenue or overflow parking is available in the parking lot just on the uphill side of the Korean Church and at the Relay Children's Center. Look for posted signs. Volunteers needed with GPS units to hike around sections of the Avalon Area of Patapsco State Park to help Maryland DNR locate exact GPS coordinates of specific areas where the invasive wavyleaf basketgrass plant is invading the Patapsco River Valley. After identification, DNR will seek and destroy! Rain or shine.

Avalon Area of Patapsco State Park.
