A WINTER'S FEAST

A Winter's Feast was last held on March 4, 2007 in Pavilion 300, in the Hollofield Pavilion of Patapsco State Park, from 3 pm - 6 pm. Interested persons joined the Friends of the Patapsco Valley and Heritage Greenway members and other guests for this family-oriented program including an outdoor picnic (inside a semi-enclosed shelter), live guitar music, sing-along songs, demonstration by the local boy scouts and stories about winter in the Patapsco Valley.

The event included:
  • hot drinks (hot chocolate, coffee or tea) to keep you warm, courtesy of Pfeffekorn's Coffee
  • hot dogs and hamburgers (veggie burgers for our vegetarian guests)
  • a variety of delicious side dishes and desserts brought by participants
  • music by well-known local guitarist and singer, Sam "Muleman" Miller
  • sit on a picnic bench with a roaring fire inside the enclosed shelter
  • toast marshmallows with a stick you find outside
  • learn from Boy Scout Troop 432 how to properly fold a flag and another surprise demonstration
  • informal sharing of memories of winter and winter activities among participants
  • play inside board games and other kid toys from the past (that do not require batteries!)
  • for the adventurous, a short hike down to the Patapsco River from the overlook shelter.

Each participant or family brought a side dish or a dessert to share with others as part of a "Winter's Feast."

Meat and vegetarian burgers were grilled outside, courtesy of local Boy Scout Troop 432.
